There is no set limit. The program gathers all the event
information for a date square and computes the total height needed to fit
all the events in the square. If the date square is too small then the
font size of each event is lowered and a new calculation is made. This
process continues until the information either fits or the font size has
become too small to read and an overflow occurs. If an overflow does
occur, a warning message appears telling the user which date has
overflowed and that the date square will be left blank.
Hint: Always "Preview" before printing to save paper and ink.
The Preview feature allows the user to check for overflow's, color
combinations, background pictures, etc.

Event photos are entered at the same time you enter the description and
date of an event. Later the event photos are automatically placed
into the empty date squares on the calendar in the same month as the
event.
Depending on the
month, the number of squares available ranges from 9 to 14. If
used, the small last-month and next-month calendars reduce the number
by 2. Printing the small calendars is a user selectable option.
If there are more event photos than empty date squares, a warning
message appears indicating that some photos were excluded. The user
can then return to the edit screen to select which photos to include.
Hint: Always "Preview" before printing to save paper and ink.
The Preview feature allows the user to check for overflow's, color
combinations, background pictures, etc.

The event pictures
can be most any size and type. Picture file formats supported are :
bmp, jpg, gif, wmf, and emf. The program scales the pictures to fit the
current cell size. It also adjusts the dimensions of the picture to
maintain the aspect ratio of the source picture.

On the "Preview"
screen click on the "Save as Picture" button, enter a file name for the
picture and then "Save". Calendars can be saved in .bmp, .wmf or
.emf format. In the BMP format the longest dimension of the picture is
set to 1000 pixels and the other dimension is scaled appropriately to
maintain the aspect ratio of the calendar. Pictures in the BMP format
are saved in 24 bit color.
The saved picture file can be imported into many other applications
such as word processors, graphics programs or used as wallpaper for
your computer desktop.

Background pictures
are stretched to fit the current height and width of the calendar.
Therefore, best results are obtained by selecting background pictures
that are roughly in the same aspect ratio as the calendar. Since the
event descriptions will be printed on top of the background picture,
light colored backgrounds usually work better. However, using a darker
background picture with lighter colors for event text also produces
some interesting results.
To select background pictures first click the [Bakgrd Pics] button on the main screen.
From this screen the user can assign 12 background pictures to the calendar. One
for each month of the year.

Clicking the
[Translate] button on the main screen brings up a screen allowing the
user to modify all canned words on the printed calendar including the
names of the months and the days of the week. This feature provides the
user with the ability to self translate the printed calendar into any
language that he or she is familiar with. or to simply modify or
abbreviate some of the words appearing on the calendar. The user can
also modify canned words such as anniversary, birthday, etc. as well as
the footer appearing at the bottom of the calendar.
How do I change the
words that appear on the calendar?
Use the translation feature mentioned above to simply modify or abbreviate some of the words appearing on the calendar. The
word anniversary, for example, could be changed to "anniv" or eliminated all
together. The footer appearing at the bottom of the calendar can also be
modified.

MSVBVM50.DLL is a runtime file that is required to run Family Picture
Calendar and many other applications. Most computers already have
this file install so it is not included with distribution file that
installs Family Picture Calendar. An installation file msvbvm50.exe
is available from this web site that will install the missing file for
you.

If I upgrade to Family
Picture Calendar from the older Family Calendar program do I
have to re-enter my events and dates?
No. Although Family Picture Calendar uses a different calendar
file format it is compatible with the .cal files from the older Family
Calendar program. It will read the .cal files, make a copy of the file
and then convert the copy to the new file format. i.e. name.cal is
converted to name.fpc and name.cal remains unchanged.
Family Picture Calendar also supports long filenames.
Therefore, rather than dougshar.cal, file names can be now be more
descriptive. i.e. Doug and Sharons Family Calendar.fpc.
